The same test call as a video. Watch on YouTube

Unedited recording of a test call to our demo line. The caller is an AI voice too, playing a homeowner; the shop is fictional. Recorded on Sep 28, 2026, before the automated-assistant opening line was added to every call.

  1. Agent Thanks for calling Miller Plumbing & Heating, this is Riley. How can I help you today? This call may be recorded for quality.
  2. Caller Hi, um, I've got water coming through my kitchen ceiling, right under the upstairs bathroom. It just started a few minutes ago, and it's dripping onto the floor. I put a bucket under it. Can you help?
  3. Agent Thank you for letting me know. That sounds urgent. First, if you can safely access your main water shutoff, usually where the water line enters your house, please turn it off to help limit any further damage. Let's get this taken care of right away. May I have your name, please?
  4. Caller Okay, hold on. It's in the basement. My name is Maria Lopez.
  5. Agent Thank you, Maria. Please let me know once you've turned off the main water shutoff. Next, what is the address where you need service?
  6. Caller Okay, it's off. The dripping is slowing down. The address is 418 Grove Street, Maplewood.
  7. Agent Great job turning off the water, Maria. That should help minimize the damage. Can I get the best phone number to reach you? And just to confirm, is anyone in the home elderly, an infant, or using medical equipment?
  8. Caller Yeah, my cell is 973-555-0148. And no, nobody here is elderly, an infant, or using medical equipment.
  9. Agent Thank you, Maria. Just to confirm, your phone number is 973-555-0148 and the address is 418 Grove Street, Maplewood. Is that correct? Since this is an emergency, we'll get someone out as soon as possible. Is it okay if I text the appointment confirmation to this number? You can reply STOP any time to stop the texts.
  10. Caller No, no text, thanks. A call is fine.
  11. Agent Let me check for the earliest emergency appointment we have today.
  12. Calendar checked: 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM open today
  13. Agent Maria, we have emergency arrival windows today at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Which would you prefer?
  14. Caller I'll take the 1:30 PM, please.
  15. Agent Booking your emergency appointment for 1:30 PM today.
  16. Booked on the shop's board · texting declined, so no text sent
  17. Agent Your emergency appointment is booked for today at 1:30 PM. A technician will call you within 15 minutes to confirm and let you know when they're on the way. If anything changes or the situation gets worse, please call us back. Thank you for acting quickly, Maria.
  18. Caller Okay, thank you so much. Bye.

The problem

Many of the calls you miss don't leave a message. They call the next guy.

What published data says about answering the phone in home services, and who published it. None of it is our data: we are new and have no customer results to publish yet.

Sources
  1. Answer rate: “The Invoca Home Services Lead Conversion Benchmarks Report 2026”, Invoca, July 2026, invoca.com. Across the home-services businesses on Invoca's call-tracking platform (nine trades including HVAC and plumbing), 52% of calls were answered by a person; 65% for calls longer than 15 seconds. Invoca sells call tracking and AI voice software.
  2. Response speed: James B. Oldroyd, Kristina McElheran and David Elkington, “The Short Life of Online Sales Leads”, Harvard Business Review, March 2011, hbr.org. Companies that tried to reach a web lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it as those that tried an hour later. It measures follow-up on web inquiries, not answering the phone.

Figure 1 is a vendor's platform data and figure 2 is published research. Neither is DispatchLine customer data: DispatchLine has no customer results to publish yet.

How it works

From ring to booked job in four steps. You don't touch the phone.

Forward your line when you can't answer, or all the time. DispatchLine does the rest and shows you everything in the portal.

Answers the call

In your company's name, with a natural voice. It opens every call by saying it's an automated assistant, and says so again whenever a caller asks.

Triages the call

Burst pipe or annual tune-up? It asks your questions, gives the safety instruction first for gas, smoke or CO, and flags emergencies.

Books the job

Offers open arrival windows from your business hours and your DispatchLine board, gives the caller two, reads the address back, and books it onto the board.

Alerts and reports

Email alerts for bookings and urgent requests, plus a summary of every call in your portal, with the recording and transcript while recording is on (the default). Text confirmations to the caller are included. Optional owner SMS alerts require your opt-in.

Honest comparison

You already have a way of handling the phone. Here's how this compares to it.

Three of these are reasonable choices and we'll say when. The one that is never a choice is the phone ringing out.

When you should not buy from us. If you are already on Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan and happy to pay for their receptionist add-on, buy theirs — it writes straight into the software you already live in, and that matters more than anything we do better. DispatchLine is for the shop that is not on one of those, or is on one and does not want to move its whole office onto a higher tier to get the phone answered.

What it is, and what it isn't

DispatchLine does not replace Jobber or ServiceTitan. It answers the phone they don't.

We would rather you read this here than find it out in week two.

  • It is a phone line that books jobs. Every call arrives with a two-line summary, plus a recording and a transcript while recording is on (the default). Every booking goes on your DispatchLine board and emails you and your team the moment it happens.
  • It is not a field-service platform. No invoicing, no dispatch board for your techs, no payments. Keep using whatever you use for those.
  • It does not write into Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan yet. Today you get the booking by email and in the portal, and a call-history CSV export. If a two-way sync with your field software is the thing you need, buy the add-on inside that software instead — we would rather lose the sale than have you cancel in month two.

The guarantee

If your agent has not booked a single appointment in its first 14 days live, email hello@getdispatchline.com within 7 days of that and we refund the first month you were actually charged and cancel the subscription unless you tell us to keep it running.

The test is one number you can read yourself: the booking count in your own portal. Full conditions, including what the guarantee does not cover, are in the policy below — please read them rather than this summary.

The portal

See every call. Hear your calls. Know what each one was worth.

Your DispatchLine portal shows the calls you'd have missed, the jobs that got booked, and the leads that still need a callback. Change the agent's greeting, hours or emergency rules yourself. No ticket, no waiting.

  • A two-line summary for every call, plus the recording and transcript while recording is on (the default)
  • Every booking on your Appointments board, with call-history CSV export
  • Weekly email: calls answered, jobs booked, estimated value booked
  • Add your office staff and techs, choose who gets emergency alerts

Common questions

Straight answers.

Why would I buy this from a company I have never heard of?

You should not, on our word. So we put the three checks that do not need trust first: the demo number on this page is a live agent you can call right now without giving us anything; your own line does not answer a single customer until you have made a test call and heard it yourself; and no booking in the first 14 days live? Your first paid month is refunded. We are new and have no customer results to publish, and you will not find a testimonial anywhere on this site, because we have not earned one yet.

Does it work with Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan?

Not yet. DispatchLine books onto its own appointments board and emails you and your team the moment a job is booked; you also get a call-history CSV export. It does not write into your field software. If a two-way sync is what you actually need, the receptionist add-on inside the software you already use is the better buy and we would rather say so here than have you find out in week two.

AI voice is cheap now. Why not just build this myself?

If you are a developer, build it: the raw voice models are a few cents a minute and there are no-code builders that get you a talking agent in an afternoon. What that afternoon does not give you is a phone number that survives a carrier outage, trade-specific triage that puts the gas-leak instruction before anything else, call summaries you can pull up months later (with recordings and transcripts while recording is on), text-consent handling, or somebody on the hook when it books a job wrong at 2 AM. If none of that matters to you, you genuinely do not need us.

What do I get in the free trial?

3 days free with 150 trial minutes, up to 8 minutes on any single call. Every feature is included. Your card is charged for the first time on day 4 unless you cancel before then. We email you at about 80% of the trial minutes and again when they are used up. If they run out first, the agent answers with a short message saying the line is paused until your paid plan starts on day 4, so a trial cannot run up a bill. To start paid service sooner, email support@getdispatchline.com and ask.

What happens when the trial ends?

The trial becomes a paid month and the card on file is charged for the plan on your account: $149, $299 or $549 a month, by how many trucks you run. No per-minute charge, no minute bundle to run out of, no setup fee. Taxes where applicable. Cancel before then from your billing page and you are not charged at all; canceling ends the trial at once and the agent stops answering.

What if it books a job I cannot do?

It only offers open arrival windows from your business hours and your DispatchLine board, and it reads the address back before it books. You get an email when the call ends, so you see the booking that night and not the next morning, and every booking is on your board where you can move or cancel it. For a caller who mentions smoke, fire, a CO alarm or a gas smell it stops booking entirely and tells them to leave the building and call 911, or for gas, the gas utility's emergency line from outside.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any time, from the billing page in your portal. Cancel during the 3 trial days and the card on file is never charged; canceling ends the trial at once and the agent stops answering. After that, billing is month to month and canceling stops the next renewal. There is no contract, and you do it yourself in the portal without contacting anyone.

When does my number start answering calls?

After you make one test call. Once you start the trial we build your agent and buy you a local number automatically, then you press Test call and the agent phones you. When that call is done the forwarding steps unlock and you forward your business line. You hear it work before a customer does.

Do I have to change my phone number?

No. You keep your number and forward it to DispatchLine, either only when you don't pick up (after 3 rings, say) or all the time. Turning it off is one setting in your carrier's app.

Can I start with after-hours only?

Yes. Forward your line only outside your hours, or only when busy, and widen it when you trust it. Every plan works as full-time, after-hours-only, or overflow.

What happens with a real emergency at 2 AM?

You decide. The agent can book the earliest emergency slot and tell the caller your tech will call back within 15 minutes (your on-call alert goes out as the call ends), transfer the call live to a number you choose, or take the details and promise a callback in 15 minutes. If a caller mentions smoke, fire or a CO alarm it tells them to leave the building and call 911, and for a gas smell to leave and call the gas utility's emergency line from outside, before anything else.

Will my customers know they're talking to an AI?

Yes. Every call opens with one sentence saying it is answered by an automated assistant, and the agent is instructed never to pretend to be human: if a caller asks, it is instructed to say it is the company's automated assistant and to offer to have a person call back. What callers notice first is that someone picked up and dealt with the problem.

Does it speak Spanish?

Not today. DispatchLine answers in English only. What a shop can do for Spanish-speaking callers in the meantime.

Can I listen to calls live?

No. The portal does not let you listen while a call is in progress. When a call ends, its summary is in your portal, with the recording and transcript while recording is on (the default), and bookings and emergency calls also reach you by email. If you want a person on an emergency while it is happening, set the agent to transfer emergency calls to your on-call number.

How does it know my prices and service area?

You tell it, in the portal, as plain questions and answers. The agent only answers from what you wrote. If it doesn't know, it says the office will confirm.

How does call recording consent work?

Recording requirements vary by location and circumstances. A recording notice is on by default, and recording can be disabled in the portal. You are responsible for obtaining the consent your callers require; a notice alone is not a guarantee of legal compliance. See our call recording notice and consult your adviser when needed.
